I was fascinated by the weird shapes of these oil drill bits I saw discarded at the site of an onshore oil well in Northern Scotland. They remind me of alien seed pods from a sci-fi film! The drill bits were originally diamond tipped and cost thousands of pounds each. They were quickly worn out by the toughness of the granite.

Fantastic shots. The first one, the shape and colors, just like the tentacles of an octopus when you pull them from the crevices with a large hook and they curl up. You used to be able to do that anyway. 😃

Gosh, I never thought of octopus…but yes I can see that now. Are you an expert on octopus? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in real life. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

My pleasure. No, not really. A lot of Australian fisherfolk away from the big cities would use them for bait. Unfortunately I don’t have much time for fishing these days. 😃
